Introduction

The 7th ARAE – Symposium on Antimicrobial Resistance in Animals and the Environment will take place from 26 to 28 June 2017 in Braunschweig, Germany. This biannual conference is one of the most indicated scientific meetings in research on antimicrobial resistance (AMR). More than 150 international experts from all over the world will discuss recent developments in AMR, one of the most important One Health challenges in the world. WHO, OIE and FAO adopted global action plans to fight AMR, and this conference will address important issues regarding the development of AMR in animals and the environment. The conference addresses scientists from all over the world, working in microbiology, animal and environmental hygiene, epidemiology and molecular biology, doing research on zoonoses and AMR. ARAE offers the opportunity for an interdisciplinary dialogue within the One Health concept. It promotes the development of new joint research projects and initiatives, leading to a better understanding of the spread of AMR and thus making a contribution to novel approaches and strategies in fighting it.

Veterinary Microbiology – ARAE 2017 Special Issue

The international peer-reviewed journal Veterinary Microbiology (Impact factor 2.564)  will prepare an ARAE 2017 special issue. Reviews, original papers and short communications prepared from data presented as either oral presentations or posters during the ARAE 2017 meeting may be submitted after the meeting via the journal’s website.  Regular publication in Veterinary Microbiology is free of charge. Open access publication is possible subject to payment of a fee. All submissions will undergo a regular peer-review process. Once a manuscript has been accepted, it will appear in ScienceDirect and will receive a DOI and a PII number, so that it can be cited immediately. All articles from ARAE 2017 will be summarized in a special volume of the journal about 6 months after the ARAE symposium.
